4 AI prompts to instantly improve website copy for local businesses
Here’s a common problem I see over and over again:
A local business finally sets up a website...
But it reads like it was written by a bored robot in 2008.
Vague. Generic. Zero personality. No call to action.
And the worst part?
It doesn’t convert.
Local service businesses aren’t trying to “build a brand.” They need a website that makes it immediately clear what they do, why they’re trustworthy, and how to get started.
This is where AI can help
The problem with most local websites
Most sites for small service businesses fall flat because:
The copy is copy-pasted from a template
It talks too much about what the business does and not why it matters to the customer
It forgets location-specific SEO entirely
The call to action is buried, unclear, or missing
AI won’t fix that on its own.
But when you pair it with the right prompt strategy, you can create site copy that:
Builds trust in 10 seconds
Speaks directly to your target customer
Shows up in Google for “[service] near me”
And most importantly—drives action
Use this when:
You’re a local business owner writing or rewriting your site
You’re a marketer building sites for service-based clients
You’re a freelancer who wants to offer AI-powered web copy (and charge for it)
The 4 prompt system: From input → impact
This isn’t theory. These are the exact prompts I use to help local businesses create homepage and service page copy that performs. When used in order, they create everything you need to launch or upgrade a site that actually brings in leads.
Prompt 1: Get the right inputs first (company clarity)
This is where most people mess up—they ask AI to "write a homepage" before giving it any real context.
Use this prompt to collect the critical details that define your message, voice, and offer.
🧠 Prompt:
"You are a branding and copywriting expert with deep experience writing high-converting website copy for local service businesses. I want you to gather detailed background context to inform the tone, content, and emotional appeal of the copy. Please answer the following:"
What service(s) does [COMPANY_NAME] provide?
What is [COMPANY_NAME]'s primary service area or location ([CITY/REGION])?
Who is the target customer? ([TARGET_AUDIENCE])
What problem does [COMPANY_NAME] solve for these customers?
What makes [COMPANY_NAME] unique or better than competitors?
Are there any customer testimonials or reviews you want to reference?
What’s the desired tone for your brand (e.g., friendly, professional, bold, luxury, humorous)?
What action do you want visitors to take when they land on your website ([PRIMARY_CALL_TO_ACTION])?
➡️ Tip: This is a great onboarding questionnaire for clients too.
Prompt 2: Generate homepage copy that converts
Once you’ve got the inputs above, this is your go-to homepage builder. It covers everything from headline to CTA.
🧠 Prompt:
"Act as a high-converting direct response copywriter. Based on the following details, write compelling homepage copy for a local service business. Include a strong headline, subheadline, benefit-driven paragraph sections, social proof, and a clear call to action."
Include:
Company: [COMPANY_NAME]
Services: [SERVICES_OFFERED]
Location: [CITY/REGION]
Target Audience: [TARGET_AUDIENCE]
Unique Selling Points: [DIFFERENTIATORS]
Testimonials: [CUSTOMER_QUOTES]
Brand Tone: [BRAND_TONE]
CTA: [PRIMARY_CALL_TO_ACTION]
➡️ Result: Clean, direct copy that sounds human and gets people to take the next step.
Prompt 3: Write SEO-optimized service pages
This is one of the most overlooked parts of a local site.
Each service needs its own page—and it needs to answer questions, establish trust, and include location-specific content.
🧠 Prompt:
"As an expert SEO copywriter for local businesses, write a dedicated service page for [SERVICE_NAME]. Include:"
A persuasive intro that explains why this service matters to [TARGET_AUDIENCE] in [CITY/REGION]
A list of benefits for choosing [COMPANY_NAME]
A quick “how it works” section
3–5 FAQs to overcome objections
A strong call to action
➡️ Use this prompt for every core service—each can bring in search traffic and drive conversions.
Prompt 4: Optimize for local SEO
Now that you’ve got good content, let’s make it work harder for you in Google search.
🧠 Prompt:
"You are a local SEO expert. Based on the website copy provided for [COMPANY_NAME] in [CITY/REGION], provide recommendations to:"
Include geo-targeted keywords naturally
Improve meta descriptions and H1/H2 structure
Add schema markup suggestions
Suggest ways to improve E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust)
Return your feedback in a checklist format.
➡️ Deliverable: A punch list you (or your developer) can implement today.
Final thoughts
This is one of my favorite use cases for AI—it removes the overwhelm of copywriting and helps you (or your client) show up with clarity and credibility.
And best of all?
This 4-prompt system works even if:
You’re not a copywriter
You don’t have a big team
You’re launching on a shoestring budget
